Tips On Finding The Perfect Paint Colour
A room is really defined by the colour of its walls. While there are thousands of colour options out there, it can really be hard to settle down and choose the greatest colour for a room. Sometimes you think you have the perfect one picked out, you paint colour the walls, and a little while later you are unsatisfied and want to change it. This can be a waste of both time and money. Here are some tips to help you decide on the perfect colour:
Base Colours Off of Your Décor
When looking to paint a room, you should search for colours that naturally compliment your surroundings. Take note of the colours of your furniture, rugs, fabrics, etc. Be cautious, making sure you do not overwhelm the room. For example, if you have a bold rug, you will not want to paint the walls with something equally as strong, keep it simple. On the flip side, if you would like the walls to be bold, keep the décor simple.
Dark vs. Light
Dark colours may create a warm feeling, but also usually make the space feel small. Light colours on the other hand will open the room up, and really make it feel larger than it is. If you are painting a small space, it is much better to go with a lighter colour.
Neutral Colours Are Great For Versatility
Neutral colours give the room a simple, classic touch and can work with virtually anything. Keeping the walls neutral allows you to play around with rugs, art, and fabrics or whatever else is in the room.
Paint chips are a big help
NEVER pick out a colour at the store without bringing home the paint chip first and getting a feel for what it will look like on your wall. Even if you think you have found the ideal colour when browsing, bring that specific paint chip as well as a few similar styles home and compare. This extra step can end up saving you a lot in the long run.
Get paint samples and test them out
Even after you think you have found the perfect colour, we recommend getting a couple samples made up (one of your ideal colour and maybe a second or third choice). These should only cost you a few dollars. Doing this will allow you to come home and paint a few giant swatches on your wall to see how the paint actually looks on the wall. Paint can look very different throughout certain times of the day, and in different forms of light, natural light will usually show the paints truest colour.
Once you have seen the colour in different light and throughout different times of the day, and you are sure you have found the perfect colour, go ahead and pick it up!
Enjoy
Once the painting is finished, either by yourself or a professional, you can relax and take in the new colour of your room. Enjoy!
